I was looking for several contracted authors, and none of them accepted an interview. The closest I came was with a new author who didn't have a contract yet but was up and running and told me that they gave him an email invitation for a novel.

 

Now I will tell you the bad things about Wattpad and then the good things about signing a contract.

 

One of the most frustrating things I've experienced is the possibility of having your work stolen in public places. On platforms like Wattpad, it's possible for someone to copy your novel and publish it under their name. There are many cases of new authors who have had their works stolen. In my opinion, Wattpad is a place where problems of this type abound. Not all users are like this, but the most immoral ones can steal your work.

 

What can you do to protect your original works? Here are some solutions that I found researching all night:

 

Post only drafts: I always post only drafts on sites like Wattpad. This way, if someone steals your work, you will have proof that the original version is yours.

Register your works: Consider registering your works with a copyright office in your country. This provides additional legal protection and can be helpful in the event of legal disputes.

Use Safe Creative: Safe Creative is a platform that allows you to register your works for free and obtain a registration certificate that can serve as proof of authorship.

Take advantage of Wattpad tools: Wattpad has systems for storing data and publication dates, which can help you prove authorship in case of theft. Additionally, you can submit a DMCA takedown request if you find that your work has been copied.

Keep detailed records: Keep copies of your drafts, emails, and any other communications related to your work. These records can be useful in proving authorship.

Consider posting on more secure platforms: If Wattpad doesn't offer the security you need, you could explore other platforms that have better copyright protections.

I mentioned the DMCA, but what is it? I'll give you a quick summary.

The DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) is a United States copyright law that was enacted in 1998. Its main purpose is to protect copyright in the digital environment; for the most part, this does work and is in force; there are several licenses. They are licenses. An important thing that I see that no author wants to tell you is that to have a better chance of signing an exclusive contract with Wattpad and being given the privilege of defending yourself if a work is ever stolen, you must have at least more than two finished works. or underway, but they must exceed fifty thousand words. These are the benefits that caught my attention the most; there are others, but those are just to add more nice letters to the advertising. Because, irmaõ, let's be honest, who the hell is interested in debating with other guys about what is better, paper or electronic? That's already nonsense to make you believe that it has many benefits.
